Safety Tips
At SafeSpace, your safety is the foundation of everything we build. Here are practical tips to help you stay safe while forming genuine connections.
Before You Meet
- Take your time.Don't feel pressured to meet someone in person right away. Use the chat to get to know them first.
- Keep conversations in the app. Avoid sharing your phone number, email, or social media profiles until you feel comfortable and trust the person.
- Video chat first. If you're unsure, suggest a video call before meeting in person. It's a great way to verify someone is who they say they are.
- Watch for red flags. Be cautious if someone avoids answering questions, pushes to meet too quickly, asks for money, or tries to move the conversation off SafeSpace immediately.
Meeting in Person
- Meet in public. Choose a busy, well-lit location like a coffee shop or restaurant. Avoid private locations for first meetings.
- Tell someone your plans.Share where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back with a trusted friend or family member.
- Arrange your own transportation.Drive yourself or use a rideshare so you can leave whenever you want. Don't rely on your date for a ride.
- Stay sober. Keep a clear head, especially on first meetings. Watch your drink and never leave it unattended.
Trust Your Instincts
If something feels off, trust that feeling. You don't owe anyone an explanation. It's always okay to end a date early, stop responding to messages, or block someone. Your comfort and safety come first.
